From the Sigismund’s Column to the Palm Tree
The Public Art

The artist enters the city centre. The discussion about public art held between the Sigismund’s Column and the Palm Tree.

During the walk Michał Wardzyński and Tomasz Fudała from the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw presented various strategies of artists’ presence in the urban public space. The talk begun at the Sigismund’s Column in an attempt to interpret the critical and political sense of this monument. Later on, walking along the Royal Tract, participants had a chance to explore the venues of the Movement Academy and Andrzej Partum’s “Avant-garde Silence" actions or the former Repassage Gallery. Joanna Rajkowska’s “Palm Tree”, one of the most discussed manifestations of an artist’s presence in contemporary Warsaw, was the endpoint of the walk.
