Workshops for children
Accompany the exhibition "Maria Bartuszová. Provisional Forms"
The exhibition is accompanied by an extensive programme of workshops inspired by the artist's working method. The workshops are organized in collaboration with the Foundation “Culture Without Barriers.” Detailed information will soon appear on the Museum’s website.
In 1976 and 1983, together with Gabriel Kladek, Maria Bartuszová organized workshops for blind and visually impaired children. The outcome of the workshops were sculptures that enabled the blind to get acquainted with the meaning of various forms and textures, differentiate tensions between geometrical and organic forms, get to know their emotional meanings and develop aesthetic imagination. This sort of violation of selflessness of art, emphasis and “different” use of textural qualities of a sculpture and the emphasis on the haptic characteristics of sculpture is an expression of Maria Bartuszová’s immensely avant-garde approach to her artistic tasks.
The series of workshops organized as part of the exhibition “Maria Bartuszová. Provisional Forms” addresses this gesture, develops it and takes one step further.
In cooperation with young artists, a group of sculptures-assembly kits inspired by Bartuszová’s works will be produced. Workshops organized for children with different sorts of disabilities and healthy ones will address the artist’s intuitive belief that art is one of the most universal communication tools. Tensions present in shapes and materials as well as efforts to capture and describe them will be tossed around. They will be mutually illuminated, complemented, sometimes excluded, but will always show the multitude and diversity of ways of dealing with art and the surrounding world.
What we call “a step further” is events that draw from the artist’s intuition and imagine its follow-up, namely possible varieties or consequences. This part of the programme provides for a series of musical improvisations. This type of guide to the exhibition is another way of telling about contents and dynamics included, while through improvisations for voice and instruments participants will be able to look for a common space between seeing, hearing, sensation and a verbal description. Owing to the use of cello and bass, the workshops will also be available to participants with deafness.

Bios:
Katarzyna Tekielska, musician, studied at The Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk and Koninklijk Vlaams Conservatorium Anwerpen. She sings, plays alto and violin, composes music and writes lyrics in such bands as The Frozen North and Kaad as well as Gre Badanie Experimental Choir.
She draws inspiration from chamber baroque forms, powerful sound of Mahler and Brückner’s symphonies, Lutosławski's work as well as such bands and artists as Nick Cave, Dirty Three or Godspeed! You Black Emperor.
Dominika Jarosz, vocalist, actress, dancer. Studied at the Faculty of Theatre Studies of the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw. While still a student, she began her cooperation with Piotr Borowski’s Theatre Studio.
So far, she has collaborated with Chorea Theatre Association, Sztuka Nowa Theatre Association, neTTheatre, Practitioners of Culture Association, Gre Badanie Experimental Choir, Pinokio Theatre from Łódź and Moon Fool from Great Britain.
Dave Killoran, guitarist and founder of The Frozen North band. His musical roots embrace Entheos band, in which he played and composed music that blended traditional Irish folk with rock and grunge. He writes music and gloomy, poetic lyrics. He is also a member of Kaad band.
Ania Machnowska, musician, vocalist and bassoonist, graduate of The Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk at the Instrumental Faculty. Her artistic endeavours have been associated with the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk and Pomeranian musical circles. In 2013 she founded the APPASIONATO Music Studio, to provide schooling to young musical art scholars. In her work she eagerly refers to domestic folk music, at the same time being inspired by foreign cultures, classical music and jazz.
Aleksandra Górska-Tarłowska, graduate of the Academy of Music in Łódź, where she studied cello under the guidance of Dr Dominik Połoński. She deals with historically informed performance and is keen on improvising and performing dance music on baroque cello.
Filip Szumowski is a bassist. To him, music serves a tool for establishing a dialogue between people. He performs and composes in such bands as Visions of Tondal and The Frozen North.
Patryk TikTak Matela, a beatbox teacher with over 10 years' experience, co-founder of the Polish Beat-box Battle, pioneer of mashing beatbox with untypical styles, author of the first book on human beatbox in Poland. He performed on stage during the Warsaw Autumn festival (with Kwartludium) and Turning Sounds (with Phil Minton, Sainkho Namtchylak and Didi Bruckmayr).
