Family album (1-9/9)

Memories and experiences from family home shaped Zbigniew Libera in a significant way. It can be noticed both in his statements and in his art. Since early childhood raised by women (artist's father died, when he was only three), what influenced his character and directed his artistic searching.

„Reading other artists' memoirs, I often see that mothers are the spurs of children's creativity, not fathers. My mum loved poetry, but hide it, because she thought it was for someone else and she cannot allow herself t be that person”. (quote after: „Jak wychowywano Zbigniewa LiberÄ™“, Wysokie Obcasy, “Gazeta Wyborcza” supplement, 09.10.2004). Artist's mother encouraged her son's self-development, perhaps in hope that he will be able to afford that “better life”.

In the section Family album, there are three catalogues: Childhood, Mum in work uniform, and Grandma's Pictures, 1984. the first one contains a few saved photographs docymenting artist's earliest years. „Mum in work uniform” is a photo cycle, which Libera took of his mother, who was a nurse, dressed in cap and work apron. „Grandma's Photos“ from 1984 are photographs took during taking care of the older woman, made while perparing such works as „Sleeping grandmother“, „Regina G“ or „Untitled (grandmother)“, but hasn;t become a part of any of them.

Family album contains also several pictures of his mother (at home, during vacation), pictures of Libera's friends from youth, and an accidental picture by Libera's mother, where appear mysterious figures “7”.
