Mannequins, 1985. (1-7/7)

Photographic cycle „Mannequins“ concentrates mostly on the problem of sexuality. Artifacts firm the public domain, related to consumerism, Libera transports to the private sphere. In this way personal freedom is linked to consumerism. Mannequins may play only the function of objective social structures symbol here, but also an expression of normalization and taming of human individuality, which becomes only a mean needed for reproduction of power and dependency relations.

Idealisation of human body in the case of dummies is in opposition to antique art where statues were treated rather as an emanation of outer aestheticism and beauty, here function is different – the main function is the materialisation of consumer's demands. In Libera's work mannequins are detached from their commodity context and became unreal, similarly to the human body which becomes unreal detached from its physiology (including sexuality).
