Description by Filmoteka Muzeum

The action took place in 1999 on the premises of the academic housing estate in Lublin during the Kontperformance festival. It attracted many onlookers who happened to be in the area at the time. Establishing a relation with the urban tissue is a characteristic mode of action of Wspólnota Leeeżeć (The Lyyying Community). The group members introduced an element of surprise, a bright colour and an enigmatic sign – something that shook the established order and thereby affected the event participants in powerful ways. The action resulted in a multi-part, pink-blue-violet installation made of such components as fruit, vegetables, screws, pulverised pigment, fabric, wire and knives. The object became the eponymous buffer, a catalyst of emotions of the city dwellers.

“In the sphere of conceptual intentions, Buffers constructed in public spaces should play the role of magnets that attract all negative thoughts and vibrations and transform them into energies that are neutral or beneficial for all creatures. At the current development stage of technology and human thought, such Buffers can exist solely as prototypes, while the principle of their [future] operations needs to be clarified with written or spoken words” – explains Andrzej Miastkowski (Egon Fietke).
