Description by Filmoteka Muzeum

Natalia LL’s performance Points of Support is a response to artistic activities of the 1970s, pivoting around the analysis of the media. In opposition to those actions, the artist emphasises the role of the subject in art understood as an “awareness-related operation”. She considers the artist not only as the creator, but also the subject and object of art. The artist can adopt the role of a medium between two realities, as it is for example the case with this performance – between the micro- and the macrocosm. “I am (…) on Earth”, says Natalia LL, “and I can see everything from a special vantage point, distinguished in the Universe by presence. I want to contain the macro- and the microcosm, reducing them to psychophysical orientation, constrained by my physical finiteness”. Treating her body as a medium, the artist reproduces the shapes of 18 constellations on the grass in the Pieniny National Park. Thus, “a specific relation (...) occurs between the congruence and adequacy of extraterrestrial phenomena and the materially existing immaterial art”, and the Earth – through the artist's body – becomes the screen of the Universe.
