Description by Filmoteka Muzeum

The performance Pirouette, which was shown in West Berlin on the 23rd of November 1984, can be seen as an act of facing the artist’s own past. Ewa Partum hung a strip of paper on a fan and put her own nude auto portrait at the end of it. Underneath, she put a mirror (2x2m). Wearing only skates she went on to describe the meaning of a pirouette as a figure enabling to look inside oneself and started to walk along the mirror breaking it into little pieces and destroying her own reflection. "What passed away and was important is as connected with us as the real thing in the mirror reflection. I'd like to destroy my past during one pirouette" she said.
