Roman Kurkiewicz talks with Marta Dzido
Invisible women of the Solidarity movement
The talk will be dedicated to Sanja Ivekovič’s work "Invisible Women of Solidarity" about the unknown, erased and vanishing portraits of women involved in Solidarity and its underground operations.
Intending to erect “a monument for the invisible women”, the artist points out that the women who fought for democracy and liberty are absent from the Polish historical narration. After the breakthrough year of 1989, these women disappeared from the political scene, which now became dominated almost unexceptionally by male Solidarity members.
Roman Kurkiewicz will talk with writer and director Marta Dzido, who is currently working on a documentary movie titled Solidarity according to Women, in which she brings back to life the “erased” heroines of the social resistance. The talk will also be a chance to pose questions about the place of women on the political, legislative and professional scenes in the Third Republic of Poland; about the way to express and respect women’s rights. How has it happened that women have been marginalized? And how could this problem be rectified?
