Gender and the Country
Meeting with Michał Łagowski and Daniel Rycharski
Museum invites to collateral event of the exhibition “As You Can See”: meeting with Michał Łagowski and Daniel Rycharski – two key artists working in the non-urban context.
The recent years have seen contemporary art emerge from the countryside. Having graduated from academies, artists from the country often return home, where they try to develop their artistic activities, dealing in various ways with the rural context. On the one hand, they try to emphasise the connection with the local community (Rycharski), on the other – they are far from idealising it (Łagowski).
One of the main topics of the meeting will be the question of gender and the country.
Michał Łagowski is one of the most interesting Polish performers of the young generation. His art revolves around the relation between the centre and the peripheries, juxtaposing, for instance, the questions of gender and the problems of rural communities.
Daniel Rycharski deals with films, multimedia installations and site-specific objects. Creator of public projects in the rural environment engaging the local community.
