Disassembly - on science, art and cellulose
Meeting with Bownik
The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw is glad to invite you to the meeting with Bownik, focused around his book entitled “Disassembly”.
“Disassembly” is one of the most important photographic books of 2013. The publication appeared under the imprint of the Mundin publishing house, established in 2013 by Grażyna Kulczyk and Honza Zamojski.
A fragment of the “Disassembly” cycle is presented at the exhibition entitled “As You Can See. Polish Art Today”. The main characters of the series are flowers, disassembled by the author with the use of house tools, and re-assembled into a hardly changed form. In the process of deconstruction, Bowik uses glues, tapes and links. He measures thoroughly the distance between leaves, enters it on each leaf with a pencil and takes photos.
The photographs, referring to the tradition of presenting still life, perfectly imitate and recall what was subjected to destruction. During the meeting, Bownik is going to speak about his fascination with scientific experiments and their impact on the “Disassembly” cycle, as well as about the work on his book.
The meeting will be held by art critics, Jakub Bąk and Iwo Zmyślony.
