People have always moved from one place to another in search of a better life. Developments in communication have made moving easier than ever before. But there is a dark side to migration. Migrants are vulnerable and are often exploited by employers. This abuse can take many forms — from fraud to outright slavery — but it invariably occurs. It might even be happening now, somewhere near you: in the back room of your local grocery store, your favorite restaurant, or the building next door. We’ll talk about whether this is inevitable, how to identify instances of migrant exploitation, and how to help its victims.
