Public Squares as Part of the City Culture
Lecture by Günther Vogt
Just a few days after announcement of the results of the competition to develop Plac Centralny in Warsaw, the festival will host Günther Vogt, distinguished landscape architect, professor at ETH Zurich, and designer of the outstanding public spaces at the Tate Modern in London and the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Prof. Vogt has already had an occasion to confront the issues of Plac Defilad. In 2010 he presented a model for the surroundings of the future home of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and the proposed conception for arrangement of the smaller square. He described then his fascination with the possibilities presented for landscape architects by the planned development of the surroundings of Warsaw’s Palace of Culture.
During this year’s lecture, Günther Vogt will discuss the public space of city squares as an element of urban culture, illustrating his talk with examples of projects carried out by his studio, Vogt Landschaftsarchitekten. The meeting will also be an opportunity to ask Prof. Vogt how he views the competition held for development of Plac Defilad and whether he has any favorites among the proposals entered in the competition.
