“Account of platonic love” (1994) is a record of the action where Stańczak reflected on the status of a fetish object. In this work he used used tights collected from waste bins. The artist kept on putting on tights, like skin layers, until limb numbness caused by blocked blood supply could end tragically to him. Here tights are evocative of putting on a new identity, closeness of an intimate part of clothing, carrying various human stories. They are also reminiscent of women’s stories with which the artist comes in contact, throwing them off later like a skin, like a moulting snake, and the simple act takes on a mystical dimension.
