  • Paulina Ołowska, Ewa Wawrzoń in a Costume from the Performance \

The painting titled Ewa Wawrzoń in a Costume from the Performance The Rhinoceros (1961) represents a motif, which is typical of Paulina Ołowska’s art, namely forgotten heroines or female artists. Ołowska tries to bring their stories out of oblivion and reinterpret anew, making them a part of a broader narrative thus contributing to building the tradition of women’s art. It is the provincial stage artists that Ołowska holds in particularly high esteem (if only to mention the series dedicated to the Rabcio Puppet Theatre actors from the town of Rabka) – women who take risks, who are engaged and ambiguous. Their complex condition is an inspiration for defining the artist’s contemporary identity.
