  • Jan Bułhak, The Sleigh Has Passed, 1905

A representative of pictorialism, Jan Bułhak is often referred to as the father of Polish landscape photography. Despite the fact that he explored various genres of photography, including portrait, documentary and press photography, his most famous legacy is photography of Polish landscapes of the inter-war Poland (1918-1939). His interest lay in the relation between man and nature, well rendered in the photograph titled The Sleigh Has Passed from the Museum’s collection.
