Bronisław Schlabs (1920–2009)

Bronisław Schlabs was an abstract photographer, his images were based on motifs taken from nature. He created his works by direct intervention on the negative material (i.e. by cutting, heating, gluing various materials). In 1957 Schlabs held a groundbreaking photographic exhibition – Step into modernity – in Poznan. In the same year, together with Jerzy Lewczyński and Zdzislaw Beksiński, he founded an informal photography group.

His works are, among others, in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow and in museums across the country.
