In 1973, PERMAFO Gallery in Wrocław welcomed an individual exhibition by Natalia LL. The gallery, founded by the artist herself, alongside Zbigniew Dłubak, Andrzej Lachowicz and Antoni Dzieduszycki, promoted art based on the process of recording reality: “Our goal was to treat photography as a ‘transparent’ means of recording, where any decoration or visual delusion would be reduced to a minimum.” Permafo (understood as permanent formalisation) was meant as a structure that enabled to manifest an attitude focussed on research, and not expression of art” – as the artist recalls. Guests to the opening were also recorded on film. The juxtaposition of the recording with the artist’s portrait is a symptom of reflection, seminal for her art, on the impossibility of conveying one's internal experiences.
