The assembling film Niechcice is one of the best to exemplify the formula of sociological art developed by Kwiek in the 1970s, which consisted in gaining a profound insight into the context of social life – both the lives of specific people and the community as a whole. By making it possible for a group of youth from the village of Niechcie to come up with their own films, the artist aimed at activating them and developing their critical and creative stance on reality. He wanted to help young people realise the conditions that determine the shape of their life experience. The most important thing for the artist was the very social-artistic process that he successfully sparked (“giving the voice to those who had remained mute”), and only to a lesser extent the final result in the form of a finished film.
