Daniel Knorr. Awake Asleep
Photo gallery

The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and the History Meeting House present the latest work of Daniel Knorr, Romanian conceptual artist, which consists in a symbolic appropriation of the Palace of Culture and Science.

The performance Awake Asleep consists in coordinating the rhythm of the artist’s life (he lives in Berlin and frequently travels through different time zones), with illuminations of the Palace in Warsaw. When Daniel Knorr goes to sleep, he sends a signal via his cell phone and the lights on the Palace façade go out. When he wakes up, he lights up the building again. With this gigantic “night lamp”, Knorr lets the dwellers of Warsaw know: “I’m falling asleep” or “I’m awake”.
