Open Museum 2013

The Open Museum is a series of lectures, workshops, meetings and screenings organized by the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.

The events within the series derive inspiration from Oskar Hansen's theory of the Open Form, where emphasis is placed on the collaborative learning process supplanting the traditional hierarchical process of imparting knowledge. The pillars of this approach are: negation of specialists’ primacy, continuous endeavor to translate knowledge into universally understandable categories, and attempt to allow the audience as "public amateurs" into the hermetic field of specialist knowledge. The process of creating a common dictionary for professionals in different fields and the cooperation between them are of equal importance. The Open Museum stands for open access to knowledge.

The Museum holds five cycles of meetings from March till June 2013:

Self-portrait of the Poles?

Cycle devoted to Polish modern art collections that seeks to trace what we can learn from these collections about present-day Poland. Discussions participated by directors of various public artistic institutions: Dorota Monkiewicz, Joanna Mytkowska, Piotr Rypson, Jarosław Suchan and Monika Szewczyk, as well as collector Grażyna Kulczyk.

Filmoteka Muzeum

Educational cycle of Filmoteka Muzeum - an online artists’ moving image archive - which recapitulates the history of films by Polish visual artists since the 1930s to the present day.

IMPORT/EXPORT

Cycle co-organized by the Warsaw branch of the Union of Polish Architects devoted to the international experience of the youngest generation of Polish architects.
