ZBIGNIEW WARPECHOWSKI - ½, 1979 (1-3/3)

Gallery Dziekanka, Warsaw, 1979

Three plastic milk bags are hanging under the ceiling. A big inscription „1/2” is on the wall, with a line below it. I come in with a sabre in my hand, wearing jeans, barefoot, naked waist-high. I cut three bags with one move.

White streams of milk fall down. Now the main part of the performance begins. I am trying to cut the line into two „ideally” equal parts. I am attacking the line „as if fighting”, the viewers shall read my thought, to my understanding. Ideal cut of the line in half is physically impossible. This can only be thought over and calculated arithmetically. I am revealing, demonstrating differences between abstract thinking and human possibilities.
