PAULINA OŁOWSKA, ALPHABET, 2005 (1-26/26)

Paulina Ołowska has conducted a photographic performance in 2005, inspired by the book by Karel Teige ABECEDA written in 1926, prepared in cooperation with the Czekh dancer Milca Mayerova. Referring to the experimental mobile alphabet of Teige/Mayerova, Paulina Ołowska has linked constructivist fascination by typography with rhetoric function of a dance. The Artist has shaped her body into 26 letters, from A to Z, colliding the alphabet of written language with the „alphabet” of gestures and moves.

„The Alphabet” was shown for the first time in Galerie Meerrettich in Berlin in 2005, in the New York Museum of Modern Art in 2012, and in January 2014 it was demonstrated to the audience of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.
